To support academic development of our members and researchers in the field of higher education studies we organize workshops, trainings and webinars especially on the topics of research methods and findings of recent research projects.
These activities are held in Turkish mostly.
Some examples are:
- 1st Workshop on Applied Qualitative Research (2017)
In 2017, the 1st Applied Qualitative Research Workshop was held at Boğaziçi University Garanti Culture Center, bringing together researchers, faculty members, graduate and doctoral students interested in the instruction and practice of qualitative research. With the increasing use of qualitative research methods and techniques in various fields of social sciences -such as education, psychology, and sociology- and particularly in health-related studies, the emphasis in these works has shifted from mere evaluation to uncovering deeper meanings and fostering the generation of new ideas.
Within this framework, the workshop facilitated discussions on the distinctions between qualitative and quantitative research methods, as well as key topics such as ethical principles in research, validity and reliability criteria, and the objectivity and subjectivity of both research and the researcher.
Conducted in Turkish, the event was organized by Associate Professor Fatma Nevra Seggie from Boğaziçi University, Associate Professor Sedat Gümüş from Necmettin Erbakan University, and Meltem Akbulut Yıldırmış from Boğaziçi University.
- 2nd Workshop on Quantitative Research in Social Sciences (2019)
The 2nd Workshop on Quantitative Research in Social Sciences, was successfully completed in 2019. Held at TED University campus with the participation of esteemed experts Dr. Burak Aydın and Dr. Sedat Şen, this workshop provided comprehensive training on quantitative research in the social sciences.
Particular emphasis was placed on Hierarchical Linear Modeling (Multilevel Models – HLM) and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), equipping researchers with the necessary tools to enhance and refine their approach to data analysis. By integrating HLM and SEM methodologies, the workshop aimed to expand participants’ analytical perspectives and methodological proficiency.
Conducted in Turkish, this event served as a valuable source of inspiration for attendees, shaping their future research endeavors.
- The Systematic Review Training (2023)
Conducted online in 2023, this training brought together researchers from around the world to enhance their academic writing skills in systematic reviews. The training primarily focused on widely used scoping reviews, meta-synthesis, and bibliometric analysis, providing participants with in-depth methodological insights.
A hands-on session was conducted on data extraction from Web of Science, during which participants downloaded datasets and transferred them to VosViewer for various visualization analyses. Additionally, the program covered scoping reviews in detail and explored meta-synthesis, a method that involves the re-evaluation of qualitative studies.
The training was delivered in Turkish and featured esteemed scholars, including Dr. Sedat Gümüş from The Education University of Hong Kong, Yusuf İkbal Oldaç from Lingnan University, and Mehmet Şükrü Bellibaş from Adıyaman University/Leuphana University.
